LOCALITIES
POMPU
Pompu is located at 143 m. above sea level, it has about 300 inhabitants and extends for 5.08 sq km. It is part of the Alta Marmilla, in the Province of Oristano.
Its territory is hilly and borders with the towns of Curcuris, Simala, Morgongiori, Siris and Masullas.
The territory of the town of Pompu, characterised by the presence of rolling hills and without notable high ground, has been inhabited since prehistoric times, due to its favorable climatic conditions, the proximity of waterways, the fertility of the soil and the proximity to the Monte Arci, rich in obsidian deposits. The first historical references of Pompu date back to the year 1576. In the Middle Ages, Pompu was part of the Giudicato of Arborea in the department of Parte Montis. The economy of Pompu is the typical agro-pastoral one. In the most fertile and water-rich plain, cultivation of cereals and vegetable gardens along the banks of the rivers is common, while, on the hills, there are vineyards and olive groves.
The territory of the town of Pompu extends for 5.08 sq km with an irregular pentagon shape at an altitude of 147 m above sea level. It is part of the province of Oristano, included in the Alta Marmilla, from which it retains the typical landscape of rolling hills and without notable high ground, considering that the highest peak is Monte Futtu at mere 264 m a.s.l.
